Dancing Queens: In conversation with the founders Bettina Gimenez & Sophie Köster

Why are there Dancing Queens? For Bettina Gimenez, it was the logical consequence of years of searching. "I simply couldn't find modern dance shoes anywhere in Switzerland that really impressed me and importing them was always complicated," she explains. As an enthusiastic dancer, she no longer wanted to compromise. Together with Sophie Köster, she took matters into her own hands - and founded Dancing Queens. The two met at HelloFresh and were keen to set up an online store. It quickly became clear that they wanted to sell something that was a real pain in the neck, at least for one of them, because then it would surely exist for others too. 


Right from the start, the mission was clear: dancers don't need just any pair of shoes, but models that meet several requirements - spinning ability, stability, indoor and outdoor suitability, as well as being fashionable and comfortable. "We've almost all been part of the dance community for decades, travel to over 20 international events a year and know the scene inside out," explains Bettina. "That's why we knew: Something was missing here - and we wanted to create exactly that."

From online store to global brand

Started Dancing Queens as a specialized online dance store for all dance styles. But the vision grew quickly. "Thanks to the successful launch of our own brand we realized that we can - and must - be more," says Sophie. Today, the two founders talk about nothing less than the goal of becoming the most influential global performance dance brand.

"We want to offer the perfect solution for every dance style - with quality, innovation and shoes that can be customized," adds Sophie. It's no longer just about shoes, but about a brand that combines community, lifestyle and performance - a real love brand.

30,000 customers in 60 countries

How do you manage to become globally successful in just a few years? For the founders, the answer lies in passion, expertise and team spirit. "We have a team that is just as passionate about dance and Dancing Queens Baby burns like we do. Everyone puts their heart and soul into it - and that's exactly what our customers feel," says Bettina.


There are also clear strengths: product development and design as a differentiating factor, a centralized warehouse in Germany, in-depth knowledge of performance marketing and close ties to the community. "Our store is more than just a platform - it's the heart of our business," summarizes Sophie.

Looking ahead

Standing still is out of the question for the founders. Over the next two years, they want to expand the Dancing Queens portfolio in a targeted manner - including with outdoor products. At the same time, expansion in Europe and later in the USA is on the agenda.


"We are planning to set up a company in Europe in order to sell internationally on large marketplaces such as Zalando or Decathlon. And from 2027, we want to conquer the US market," explains Sophie.


B2B also plays an important role: Shop-in-shop concepts in cities such as Baden, Basel and Lucerne have already been launched, and further collaborations with dance schools and stores throughout Europe are set to follow. "The potential is huge, and we want to Dancing Queens make it visible wherever people dance," says Bettina.
